BOOK REVIEWS: Over time

EQUALITY IN THE WORKPLACE received a considerable boost from the fizzy promises of feminism in the 1960s, but the next few decades were still turbulent for many professional women, because there weren’t enough of us to form a critical mass in the professions.I was reminded of these incidents when reading Karen Messing’s jargon-free, unbuttoned new book, Bent Out of Shape.

I WANTED ZOMBIES is a strange catchphrase to use to fight Covid-19. Will such "hip"  messaging work. Or, will hitting businesses with stiff fines for not protecting their workers do the job? The times don’t allow for any certainty. So, Toronto is going with zombies, while the Peel Region is going with fines.

A PLACE FOR US

LABOUR DAY JUST DOESN’T CUT IT. One day a year is not enough to honour all working folks have done, and keep doing every day, to make Canada work as well as it does for all of us. But, making that history—that truth— a visible, accessible and daily presence in our lives is not easy.
